What’s “Drifting to Japan”
Drifting to Japan is a personal blog about life, discovery, and adaptation in the Land of the Rising Sun. I'm an Italian expat who traded the familiar rhythms of Europe for the unique pace of life in Japan. Here, I share stories, reflections, and practical insights from my journey—from cultural curiosities and everyday experiences to challenges and small triumphs.
Whether you're dreaming of moving to Japan, already living here, or simply curious about what daily life looks like from a foreigner’s perspective, I hope you’ll find something here that speaks to you.
Expect posts on Japanese culture, local travel, food, nature, and what it means to build a new home far from home.

A couple of word about me
I was born in the 1960s in Rome, Italy. Later, life took me to Padua, where I completed my studies, worked, and met my wife (who is Japanese).
Due to a series of circumstances, the opportunity arose for our whole family to move to Date, a small town in Hokkaido Prefecture.
Since August 2023, I've been living in Japan, where I help my wife run our bed & breakfast, Casa YuriMomo.
For over twenty years, I’ve been passionate about writing and studying Japanese society.
